The skull is a symbol of death in our culture, portrayed oftenly in tattoos. My artwork aimed to mimic the gradients of a tattoo with watercolor on paper, and show how shading can be achieved with only one color. The subject of my painting, however, is more than just death; skulls are an important part of life. As part of the human body, they protect our mind and shape our faces. Once I finished painting, I would catch myself visualizing how a face might fit on top of this particular skull.
