Fleur de la Machine

Artist: Vincent Rubinelli

When I draw, I usually find inspiration from natural forms, such as the foliage that can be seen in this piece. I find that a lot of biological forms have very interesting lines that create a collage that’s fun to look at when they’re layered on top of one another. I was thinking a lot about what I wanted to pursue in college while making this piece and I think that it became a subconscious influence. I want to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering, which deals with the use of new technologies to advance medicine and care through pharmaceuticals and prosthetics. That idea of an industrial prosthetic fusing with natural bodies became the main theme of the piece, shown through the straighter, pipe-like shapes that are highlighted in the shaded portions and shoot off of the curvier forms.
